Local winery selling freedom wine; donating profits to Underground Railroad Center

VIENNA, Md. – A local winery is selling freedom wine to help support the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center in Cambridge.

Back in 2017, Layton’s Chance Vineyard and Winery created the wine in honor of Harriet Tubman. Currently, they’re donating $5 from the sale of each bottle of wine to help preserve the history and spur educational opportunities at the center. So far the winery has donated more than $7,000 to the Tubman Center, and the owners say they plan to support the program for as long as the center is open.

“I wanted that wine to be something that was special and would draw back to historical roots and also to the county. The museum has been a great thing for the county bringing visitors here bringing a lot of people that support not only it but the businesses around here and we want to help add to that as much as we can,” said co-owner of the winery William Layton.

The freedom wine is currently selling for $19.20 plus tax.
