Local group builds ramp for woman in need

SALISBURY, Md. – In Salisbury, one local woman got the gift of wheelchair accessible ramp on Friday at her home.

A group of city employees and other community members were hard at work Friday finishing this ramp for a woman who desperately needed one.

The city of Salisbury partnered up with the Chesapeake Housing Mission to build their biggest, most complicated ramp yet. This ramp is giving the owner of this home easy access she didn’t have before and it’s bringing the community closer.

“It’s a great exercise because you know part of our team goes to prepare the sight, get to talk to the residents, we’ve gotten to talk to her and then the rest of the team goes out the next day and we all execute and we come together and build the project. It is a bit of a departure from the daily grind and it’s another way to see your community,” explains Salisbury Mayor Jake Day.

So far this year, the Chesapeake Housing Mission has built about half a dozen ramps for those who are in need throughout the city of Salisbury.
