Lewes woman charged with assault on a police officer

LEWES, Del. – Delaware State Police have arrested a Lewes woman on multiple charges after they say she became disorderly at a local gas station.

Troopers were called to respond to the Wawa located at 17663 Dartmouth Drive, for a report of a female subject being disorderly. When police arrived, the female subject, identified as 37-year-old Dawn Baker, began to take off on foot. As police tried to detain her, she began resisting and hitting the trooper.

Baker was reportedly asking customers for gas money and when they declined, she became disorderly, using profane language towards them.

Troopers took Baker into custody, charging her with 2nd degree assault injure a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, failure to comply with taking photos and fingerprints, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, and loitering.

She was arraigned and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $6,602 secured bond.
