Latino Summit returns to Wilmington

DOVER, Del. – State officials are getting ready for this year’s Delaware Latino Summit, which will take place in Wilmington on Tuesday, Oct. 30.
The event draws hundreds of people from across the First State to support the quality of life for Latinos in the state.
The summit is hosted in part by the Delaware Hispanic Commission, a group of people appointed by the governor to work closely with state agencies and community leaders that support quality of life for the Latino community.
The President of the Delaware Hispanic Commission said the event is especially important for Latinos interested in starting their own business.
“Hispanics are part of a big minority group here in the state, and it is very important for them to come together,” said the President of the Delaware Hispanic Commission, Javier Torrijos.
“There are many women who also need a lot of help because they do not know where to set up a business or how to start,” said Carmelin Martin, a local resident.
Torrijos also said the summit will focus on improving the quality of education for Latino students in the state.
