Humane society benefits from annual pet parade
OCEAN CITY, Md. – O.C. Toberfest is back in town, and one of the weekend’s most popular events took place Saturday afternoon – the Pet Parade on the boardwalk.
The Ocean City boardwalk was littered with four-legged lobsters, pumpkins, spiders and many more spooky costumes.
While the event is free to participate in, donations are accepted for the Worcester County Humane Society.
The humane society also uses the event to promote their animals in the shelter, with five dogs featured during the festivities.
Last year, the event raised $1,500, along with pet supplies for the organization.
“It definitely helps with our day-to-day operation of the shelter. We are always in need of items, and being a no-kill shelter, we work mainly off donations from the general public,” said Sandy Summers, the head of the Ways and Means Committee for the Worcester County Humane Society. “It brings so much awareness to our shelter, gets our animals out there. And let’s us be known that we’re out there.”
The Worcester Humane Society wants to remind folks that they’re in the process of opening up their new spay and neuter clinic in West Ocean City. They say when they do open their doors sometime in the next two months, and their primary goal will to be start with cats and kittens to help control that population.
