Floor collapses at house party; fire department advises public to party responsibly

SALISBURY, Md. – “Nobody can live in it until repairs are made,” Assistant Chief of the Salisbury Fire Department said.

808 South Division Street looks a little different these days, thanks to a Friday night party that got a little out of control.

Frampton said, “The overloading of the floor caused the floor to give way.”

A party that brought the house down, literally, has officials scrambling to learn more.

While they work they’re condemning the damaged building.

Frampton said, “A gas line running underneath the house was broken and created a gas leak.”

Fire officials say the accident is a reminder to the community that every home has it’s shortcomings.

Frampton said, “The structure is only made to hold so much weight, whether its a house or a porch. We’re just fortunate that there wasn’t any serious injuries.”

It’s also a reminder that these things do happen, and not just here in Salisbury.

It also happened last week at Clemson University, where 30 were injured in a similar accident.

Officials say any party that places fun over safety is a recipe for disaster, and for many in our area, especially in a college community, there’s a risk that the home they’re having a good time in, isn’t their own.

Frampton said, “If you’re a renter be respectful of your landlord’s property.”
