Family left picking up the pieces after devastating fire
WHALEYVILLE, Md. – A family is picking up the pieces after their home, a place of comfort, rest and love, was destroyed in a late night fire.
The positive in all of this is that the local community is rallying around the Luzier family, trying to do everything they can to help them get back on their feet.
Andy Luzier, the homeowner said, “I’ve shed more tears over the outpouring of generosity than I have over losing my house so.”
The fire broke out in the Luzier’s home late Sunday night.
Luzier explained, “We were all in bed, I had fallen asleep on the couch watching the game and woke up to all of the smoke alarms going off.”
The family lost everything in the home: guitars, computers, closets full of clothes, and worst of all, one of their dogs.
Andy Luzier said, “Every appliance, cabinet, all the furniture has been burnt so really the house I think is a total loss.”
Now, something as simple as a phone charger serves as a reminder of what the Luzier’s lost.
“You look for your cell phone charger and realize you don’t have one, and you look for your clippers to shave your head and realize I don’t have any anymore,” Andy said.
The positive in all of this is that the community is stepping in to help.
Luzier said, “People show up with clothes and people show up with even financial donations and things like that, but it’s every time you turn around, it’s like gosh, I don’t have that.”
Family friends, a church, and even a local restaurant have all started fundraisers for the family.
This just goes to show how loved this family is by their community.
Andy Luzier said, “My wife and I joke and we say we didn’t even know this many people liked us.”
The Luzier family says despite the hardships, they’re going to continue to move forward with the help from their community.
Andy Luzier said, “You just go back to work and start moving on. Let the insurance companies do their thing and the construction companies do theirs and you gotta move forward.”
Fortunately for the Luzier family, they have a home to stay in at least until the summer.
If you want to help donate to the cause you can donate to the Worship Center’s fundraiser, or you can donate to a fundraiser set up by a family friend.
