Early morning fire at Sonic restaurant ruled accidental

FRUITLAND, Md. – An early morning fire that took place at the Fruitland Sonic Drive-In has been ruled accidental.

According to officials, an employee discovered the fire at around 5:45 AM Monday. Firefighters from the Fruitland Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, taking approximately 20 minutes to control the fire.

There were no reported injuries as a result of the fire. Total estimated structure loss is approximately $600,000, with an additional $200,000 in damage to the contents of the building.

We’re told the fire began above the ceiling and was determined to have been caused by an electrical issue.
