DUI simulator educates about dangers of driving under influence of marijuana

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – students at UMES got to use a simulator to find out just how dangerous driving while high on marijuana can be.

Unite’s the organization who brought the “Arrive Alive” simulator for students to use, says the effects of THC while driving can severely impair a persons ability to drive a car.

While effects of using marijuana on a person can vary, experts say it still can pose a threat to you and others around you as it cause you to be easily distracted.

Mallory McKenzie with Unite said,”There’s a lack of focus on the road, as well as driving below posted speed limit. For THC, or marijuana in driving, our simulator works to try to distract the user.”

McKenzie also tells 47 ABC if you do chose to drive while high, you should think twice.

She says Most police officers are trained to recognize signs of “high” driving such as driving 5 or 10 miles under posted speed limits, red eyes, or odor of marijuana.
