DSP responds to fatal chain collision in Milford

MILFORD, Del.- State police responded to a fatal multi vehicle collision on Friday.
Police say at 1:17 p.m. they responded to Bay Road and Thompsonville Road after receiving reports of a multi-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers discovered a Toyota Rav-4 was rear ended by a Pontiac Bonneville. We are told that collision caused the driver of the Rav-4 to lose control and cross the grass median into the southbound lanes and nearly crashed head on into a GMC Yukon.
The force from the second collision caused the Yukon to enter into the right travel lane of southbound SR 1 and hit a Mercury Grand Marquis on the left side. Police say that’s when the Marquis exited the right side of the roadway and hit a utility pole with its front end.
The passenger of the Mercury Marquis, 75 year old female, was transported to the Kent General Hospital and later succumbed to her injuries. Identification is pending notification of next of kin and extended family.
All other drivers and passengers were taken to local hospitals and treated for minor injuries.
The scene of the crash was closed for two hours during the investigation.
