DOVER, Del. – A fatal accident that took place Saturday evening remains under investigation by Dover Police.

According to officials, just before 11 PM, a 2004 Ford Explorer driven by 32-year-old Nicole Hauf, of Dover, was traveling eastbound on White Oak Road, just east of the Route 1 overpass, at a high rate of speed.

Hauf was reportedly unable to safely make a turn around the left curve and subsequently exited the right side of the roadway, entering a ditch. The vehicle was said to have overturned at least three times, eventually coming to a rest on its roof in the eastbound travel lane of White Oak Road.

A 13-year-old passenger was properly restrained and managed to free herself from the vehicle. She was taken to A.I. DuPont Children’s Hospital with a serious chest injury but is reportedly in stable condition.

Hauf was taken to the hospital with a severe head injury, but died as a result of her injuries Sunday morning.

Further investigation revealed that Hauf was evidently involved in an argument over the phone while driving. Officials also believe that alcohol and speed are factors in the incident.
