Delmarva beard clubs compete for local charities

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Dozens of men with beards of all lengths went head to head in Ocean City competing for a special cause on Saturday.

Beard clubs went out with the Maryland/Delaware Bearded Coalition to compete in different categories like who has the longest beard.

The main focus of the competition was to collect more than $5,000 dollars in proceeds for charities across Delmarva like Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Hugs for Heroes and the Special Olympics.

“The Bearded Men’s Society and Mad Viking, we always like to support local charities and that’s what we’re trying to do here to get together, have a good time and have a fun beard competition,” said Dan Woods, the secretary of treasury for the Delaware/Maryland Beard Coalition.

According to Woods, this is their first-ever beard competition, and he hopes the event will grow in the years to come.
