Delmar HS celebrates National School Lunch Week

DELMAR, Del. –  This week schools all across Delmarva are celebrating National School Lunch Week and Delmar High School is just one that’s highlighting the importance of school lunches.

All week long Delmar students are sampling new food items to try all with an emphasis on nutritious meals. On Tuesday, kids had a full on salad bar with local ingredients coming from a lunch favorite, Baywater Farms.

It’s all in hopes of keeping kids excited about their school lunches because for some it may be their only meal of the day.

“We want to make sure that our kids are receiving a nutritious meal. We know that some of our students may only be eating this one meal a day so it’s important that we provide here at the school the most nutritious meal for them,” explains Wendy Shores, Child Nutrition Manager.

We’re told it’s also the goal of National School Lunch Week to get kids to try new things, food that is both delicious and good for you.

Shores says when they see new items come in, the students get excited about it so when they bring in that item again they’re most likely to come back and get that same meal.
