Delaware residents warned of multi-state listeria outbreak involving deli ham
DOVER, Del. – The Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) is advising Delaware residents of a multi-state outbreak of listeria that has been linked to deli ham products.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, four people infected with listeria have been reported in North Carolina and Virginia. All four were hospitalized and one death was reported by Virginia health officials.
So far there have been no confirmed cases in Delaware, but DPH wants to urge consumers to take precautions to prevent illness.
The following ready-to-eat ham products have been recalled by Johnston County Hams, Inc.:
- Johnston County Hams, Inc. Country Style Fully Cooked Boneless Deli Ham
- Old Fashioned Sugar Cured The Old Dominion Brand Hams Premium Fully Cooked Country Ham with sell-by dates ranging from April 10th, 2018 to September 27th, 2019
- Padow’s Hams & Deli, Inc. Fully Cooked Country Ham Boneless Glazed with Brown Sugar
- Premium Fully Cooked Country Ham Less Salt Distributed by Valley Country Hams, LLC. with sell-by dates from April 10th, 2018 to September 27th, 2019
- Goodnight Brothers Country Ham Boneless Fully Cooked
Ladyfingers Gormet to Go have also recalled their Signature Shaved Country Ham rolls, as the rolls are made with ham produced by Johnston County Hams. They contain the UPC: 8 56149 00509 9.
Anyone who has any of these recalled products at home should not eat them, even if some of it has been consumed without anyone getting sick. If you aren’t sure whether or not the product has been recalled, do not eat it. Consumers are urged to confirm that deli ham products have not been recalled with the store or restaurant before purchasing them.
