Del receives $500K to buy naxolone for first responders

DELAWARE – First responders all across the state of Delaware will all be equipped with the life saving drug naxolone. The Division of Public Health just received An over $500,000  federal grant for the next four years to purchase the overdose reversing drug for Delaware first responders.

It’s a drug that has already saved thousands of lives and one the Millsboro Police Department has seen great success with. This past year alone, eight lives were saved in Millsboro from officers administering narcan.

“In a situation like this seconds matter, if you cannot breathe seconds matter. So our officers having this equipment can work together with paramedics and help save lives because sometimes you never know in this area where your paramedics could be coming from,” explains Millsboro Police Chief Brian Calloway.

With this funding, the state is hoping every agency across the state can start or continue saving lives by having naxolone on hand.
