Del: New bill provides $75 million for beach nourishment

BETHANY BEACH, Del. – The recently signed water infrastructure act  is providing many perks such as providing fund for clean drinking water for residents across the country and it’s also investing $75 million in a beach nourishment program. Officials say the act also allows the nation’s coastal communities, including those on Delmarva, to invest in the critical natural infrastructure, such as beaches, dunes and wetlands. This will hopefully protect them from flooding, storms and hurricanes. On Friday the town of Bethany Beach celebrated the act, saying it’s vital to the community.

“That investment is more than just the storm damage reduction it really gets to looking at the fiber of the economy locally and the jobs it produces and the amount of revenue that’s generated for multiple levels of the economy,” said former DNREC administrator for the shoreline of waterway management, Tony Pratt.

Officials add that the new program will also help improve the economy by creating hundreds of jobs across Sussex county.
