Del. man arrested following domestic dispute
HARRINGTON, Del. – The Harrington Police Department arrested a Bridgeville man on carjacking and other various charges after a domestic dispute incident took place Sunday evening.
Police were initially called to the Walgreens located on South DuPont Highway in Harrington for a reported domestic dispute. While officers were responding, they were also alerted to a vehicle accident just south of the fairgrounds, potentially related to the domestic dispute report. They were advised that the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident had fled on foot and threw an item while running from an off-duty police officer.
When officers arrived at the scene of the accident, they found 28-year-old Edward J. Stewart of Bridgeville being detained by the off-duty officer.
Officers also located the item that Stewart threw while he was running, a bag containing 33.8 grams of marijuana.
Further investigation revealed that the victim was driving a vehicle on South DuPont Hwy when Stewart, the passenger, began assaulting the victim. The victim pulled over to the shoulder of the highway near the Walgreens, fleeing into the store while being chased by Stewart. Stewart reportedly left the store and fled in the victim’s vehicle before crashing it.
Stewart was charged with first degree carjacking, criminal mischief over $5,000, possession of marijuana, offensive touching, disorderly conduct, and driving with a suspended or revoked license. Delaware State Police also charged him with driving under the influence and other related charges stemming from the accident.
