Community reacts to drive by shooting investigation in Seaford
SEAFORD, Del. – “I’m going to have to watch how I come outside now,” said Seaford resident Patricia Pettit.
Neighbors in a local Seaford community say they were in disbelief, after learning about a drive by shooting that Delaware State Police say took place on the 24000 block of Concord Pond Road. An area that residents say hardly has any trouble .
“I was shocked because this is a quiet neighborhood. You hardly even know somebody’s here because everybody stays in the house. So it was really a shock to me to hear that,” said Pettit.
According to state police, the suspect or suspects drove by a home in the area and fired a number of shots. They say the homeowner and two children were inside during the shooting, but luckily no one was injured. Dorothy Brant, who’s lived in the area for more than 50 years, says incidents like this never happen.
“When I first got here everything was nice and quiet everybody stayed to themselves,” said Brant.
Officials say witnesses described the suspected vehicle as a “silver and white newer style car”. But they’re hoping to get more information from the community. Since the shooting some residents say they’re taking extra precautions to make sure they stay safe.
“My neighbor next door, we tell each other and try to keep watch of what’s going on. She keeps in touch with me and I keep in touch with her,” said Brant.
While others says it’s time for the community to come together to make sure something like this never happens again.
“They need more neighborhood watch and more police roaming back and forth out here to see what’s going on ,” said Pettit.
The Delaware Sate Police say the shooting is still under investigation. If you have any information regarding the incident you’re asked to call state police at 302-856-5850
