Code Purple searching for volunteers before cold weather hits

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. –  We may be in the fall season, but one organization is already prepping for the cold.

Cold Purple is asking for the community’s help since they need over 4,000 volunteers to run the shelters smoothly on those frigid days.

The homeless shelter program that started with two has grown to eight. They’ve added four new locations so now it’s all hands on deck.

They need all the volunteers they can get for meal prepping and the overnight shift. Code Purple tells 47 ABC the sooner they find out help is on the way, the easier it is for them to run the shelter.

We’re told the overnight shift is the hardest one to fill up, but their hope is to get two people per night.

If you’d like to sign up they an online calendar, which you can check on their website. But if you can’t volunteer, donations are also helpful. They are in need of socks, paper goods, and food items.
