CAROLINE CO., Md. – The Caroline County Public Library has announced that its three locations will be closed for the next several days.

Officials for the libraries say the closure of the Denton, Federalsburg, and Greensboro locations is a result of a proactive bedbug inspection that took place on Wednesday.

Several Maryland and Eastern Shore libraries have recently had problems with bedbug infestations, so Caroline Library director Debby Bennett requested that Delmarva K-9 visit each location for inspection. Drax, a canine certified in bedbug detection, reportedly located some suspicious areas in each library location.

The library planes to work with an exterminator to treat the suspicious areas over the next couple of days, with a follow up inspection with Delmarva K-9.

“It is our job to ensure that our collection is safe and that our library locations are free of bed bugs. Library staff will remain vigilant and will continue to inspect all materials that are returned to the library. We appreciate our customers’ patience,” said Bennett.

Updated closing information will be posted to the library’s website here.
