Cambridge Police Department looking for volunteers for new ‘PAL’ program
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – In Cambridge, the city’s police department is looking for volunteers for their new PAL program, also known as the Police Athletic League.
Officials say PAL would be an after school program that would help inspire and support youth in the area. Currently, the department is looking for teachers and other community members to take part in pilot program to help students in middle school with homework assistance, take part in arts and crafts, as well as various other activities. Program directors say PAL will help ensure that all youth have a voice and an opportunity to succeed.
“The one thing I want to see because I was a PAL kid is to see kids have a positive interaction with police officers. Let them know that we’re not the bad guys, we’re not what everybody is kind of saying about us right now but kind of learn that they can talk to us, that we are here to help them and maybe this is a career that they want to do in the future,” said officer for the Cambridge Police Department Kason Washington.
The department will be hosting a kick off event for the new program on Friday at Mace’s Lane Middle School starting at 1:15 PM and they’ll be having a special celebrity guest Miles Brown, to attend the event, who currently stars on the hit sitcom Black-ish.
