Cambridge library reopens after bedbug extermination
The building was closed for two weeks.
CAMBRIDGE, Md. – A public library in Dorchester County is now open and in the clear, after tests found bedbugs inside the building two weeks ago.
The Cambridge library learned about the bedbugs during the first week of October, but could not get an exterminator to come in until Saturday, four days ago. So they had to be closed for two weeks. Officials say the situation sounds much worse than it was, but that’s simply because the exterminators were all booked up.
Dorchester County’s Public Libraries have procedures in place, to monitor for bedbugs and they want the public to know they take this seriously.
“We do take care always. That’s the point with the book drop, with spraying every two weeks, with checking things in carefully. We take care always, we want this to be a safe place for everyone,” said Frances Cresswell, the Director of the Dorchester County Public Library.
Cresswell says this is the third year they’ve done an annual bedbugs inspection of the library. She recommends doing your own research to figure out how to prevent them from spreading or even starting in the first place.
