Atlantic General Hospital adds innovative prostate cancer screening technology

BERLIN, Md. – It’s a first on the Eastern Shore when it comes to prostate cancer treatment.

Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin recently got a MRI Fusion Biopsy and it allows doctors to detect prostate cancer earlier than before.

Before the new technology, doctors could only rely on ultrasound to detect cancer. We’re told this could be the most accurate and efficient way to do this type of biopsy and having this on the shore is essential.

Dr. James Cherry says, “Up until now it would require going across the bridge to Baltimore or DC to have an MRI Fusion Biopsy before this point so to have it here on the Eastern Shore, it’s great because patients don’t have to go anywhere they can do it right here.”

We’re told prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in men and that at age 50, men should start getting screenings. If you have family history, you should start at the age 40.
