Another forestland protected in Wicomico County

SNOW HILL, Md. –  In Wicomico County, a local organization that’s dedicated to preserving rural lands across the eastern shore is adding another area to the list of places that they’re protecting. On Wednesday, officials with the Maryland Environmental Trust announced that they’ve partnered with the Lower Shore Land Trust in Snow Hill to permanently protect 154 acres in the Nanticoke River watershed. Officials with the lower shore land trust say they’ve worked with the owner of the land for nearly 2 1/2 years to make sure the area would be preserved.

“This particular property is very important for it’s timber resource, the land owner is very interested in seeing that this property is protected forever to protect the forestry industry. We’re going to have habitat available, we’re going to have water quality protections, we have really strong agriculture and forestry industries that we need to protect here on the lower shore,” said executive director for the Lower Shore Land Trust, Kate Patton.

Patton adds that the organization is thrilled to add the forest to the collection of protected land throughout Wicomico County.
