Annual Truck Convoy for Special Olympics returning to Delaware

HARRINGTON, Del. – A celebration of the trucking industry’s support of Special Olympics will return to Kent County for its 16th year.

Over 200 truck drivers from across the state and region will come together at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington to partake in a police-escorted 29 mile ride through Kent County.

The Truck Convoy is part of a national effort to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics. Over $63,000 was raised during the 2017 event, bringing the total over the duration of the event to nearly $550,000.

Trucks must weight at least 10-GVW and drivers must raise a minimum of $100 to participate.

Special Olympics athletes will also have the opportunity to ride shotgun in the trucks, and several spectator sections have been designated.

The event will take place on Saturday, October 20th, beginning at the Delaware State Fairgrounds. Registration opens at 7:30 AM, with the live auction for truck positioning at 9:15 AM, and the convoy departing at 10 AM. A festival and lunch will be held at the fairgrounds following the convoy at 11:30 AM.
