Adkins Farm open despite high water

SALISBURY, Md. –  The flooding we have seen has been effecting local businesses, like Adkins Farm Market on Mount Hermon Road in Salisbury.

Owners of the farm tell us they have been at this location for 13 years, and have only recently been seeing flood events like this.

We’re told the farm saw about nine inches of rain overnight.

But they have started taking extra precautions.  Most of their crops have been harvested, and their pumpkins are on pallets or cinder blocks to keep them away from water.  And though the fields may see some standing water, they are open for business.

“When you get that much water, and the rivers and the streams, they all fill up, there’s no place for it to go,” said owner Gaylon Adkins.  “So you’ve got to understand when you get 8-10 inches of rain, once the cup gets full, you can’t put any more water in it.”

A bonus, thanks to the, rain is that their Mums are watered.  The only part of the business closed for Friday was the play area, but Mr. Adkins says it should be good to reopen Saturday.
