ACA health insurance rates expected to drop in Md.
MARYLAND – Marylanders looking to get health insurance next year through the Affordable Care Act might see their premiums go down in 2019.
According to Maryland Health Connection, the state’s health insurance marketplace, many people could see a 13 percent price drop on their 2019 health insurance plans.
That’s thanks to a new reinsurance program passed by state lawmakers. It’s the first decrease since the ACA was enacted back in 2010.
And this year there is only one carrier, CareFirst. But we’re told there’s several plans to choose from, so health departments are encouraging everyone to explore their options.
“We also encourage everybody who is auto-enrolled because they were enrolled last year so they’re renewed automatically this year, to also shop for plans because there could be plans that are more affordable or better match their needs than what they have currently,” explains Mandy Baum, Coordinator for the Lower Shore Health Insurance Assistance Program.
There are health care professionals throughout the Eastern Shore to help people navigate the different plans available and find the one that works for them.
As a reminder, Maryland’s open enrollment starts November 1st. For more information on this year’s open enrollment you can call 1-855-642-8572 or visit Maryland Health Connection’s website.
