Update: Identity released, body found in Wicomico County River

10/23 UPDATE: According to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore 23-year-old Maurice Black Pinkett, died as a result of drowning, however the manner in which he drowned was undetermined.


SALISBURY, Md. –  On Wednesday morning, officials released the name of the body that was found in a river in Salisbury, Tuesday afternoon.

Officials say the victim is 23-year-old Maurice Black Pinkett of Salisbury. His body was pulled from the Wicomico County River at 12:30 PM on Tuesday and taken to the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Salisbury Police Chief Barbara Duncan says the cause of death is not known at this time and there are no obvious signs of foul play.

The Salisbury Fire Department, Salisbury Police Department, and members of a dive team helped recover the body.

At the time of his death, Pinkett was wearing red and black colored sweatpants and black sneakers. He is 5’11” tall and weighs 165 pounds. Detectives are requesting anyone who may have seen Pinkett walking in the area of South Division Street and Market Street or the general downtown area, between September 10 and September 11, 2018 to contact the Salisbury Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 833-SBY-CITY or Crime Solvers 410-548-1776.
