Two arrested following drug investigation in Harrington
HARRINGTON, Del. – A month long drug investigation ended with two arrests, on Thursday.
The Delaware State Police Kent County Drug Unit (KDU), Kent County Governor’s Task Force (GTF), Special Operations Response Team (S.O.R.T) and the Harrington Police Department teamed up to complete an investigation in reference to the distribution of heroin.
After investigation, 27-year-old Kevin Hughes and 32-year-old Lavar Smith were found distributing heroin from a residence located in the 200 block of Hanley Street. A 6-year-old child was also found present in the home.
Officials completed a search of the residence and seized 4.655 grams of heroin, 26 grams of marijuana, over $6,000 in suspected drug proceeds, 5 shotguns, 1 loaded AR style rifle, 6 rifles, 3 handguns, and several rounds of ammunition.
Hughes and Smith were taken into custody and transported to Troop 3, each facing numerous charges.
Hughes was arraigned and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $10,100 secured bond. Smith was also arraigned and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $74,100 secured bond.
