Trappe man severely burned following shed fire
TRAPPE, Md. – An elderly Trappe man is facing life threatening burns following a fire at his home Thursday evening.
The fire, located at 2812 Ocean Gateway, was reported to the Trappe Volunteer Fire Company just after 6:30 PM, after a nearby family member discovered the fire.
16 firefighters responded to the scene of the fire, which was located inside a wood frame storage shed.
The elderly man was found inside the shed suffering from severe burn injuries. He was transported by Maryland State Police helicopter to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury for treatment, where it was learned that he suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns to 40 percent of his body.
He was later transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview burn center for further treatment.
The origin and cause of the fire is still under investigation.
