Sussex Tech school board to increase transparency with teachers after audit missteps

GEORGETOWN, Del. – The Sussex technical school district is moving forward after alleged budget mis-steps during last years audit.

47 ABC covered the heated board meeting back in July where teachers demanded all members step down.

Since that meeting, there have been no resignations aside from past board president Pat Cooper.

New superintendent Stephen Guthrie says the board is fully committed to working directly with teachers and developing a better communication strategy.

The board will also develop new regulations  to implement into the student handbook as well  as its own policy.

Guthrie said, “Based on the board member meeting, those issues are behind us. We are committed as a board, superintendent, and staff to turn that page and move forward.”

Guthrie says its up to him to set that standard of transparent communication.

Under his direction, the board will take teachers’ questions and concerns seriously to ensure a standard sound leadership within the school community.
