Speed limit set to be lowered on Rt.113
DAGSBORO, Del. – Motorists in Dagsboro can expect a little shift in speed on US 113 very soon.
DelDOT has approved to lower the speed limit at the Clayton St. and 113 intersection to 45 mph after the town and agency conducted several traffic studies that found drivers were speeding on this highly busy road.
For the town, we’re told, this is especially important after learning that Royal Farms is expanding their operations to include a bigger diesel distribution center.
This means more tractor trailers and heavy equipment on the roadway.
“When you have a passenger vehicle colliding with the rear end of a tractor trailer it can be catastrophic and we’re just trying to get a step ahead of that. We don’t want that situation and it’s determined a year down the line after we’ve lost life and property that we need to take some action,” explains Dagsboro Police Chief Floyd Toomey.
DelDOT is currently making new signs that will show the lower speed limit. Once those are up, Dagsboro PD says they will start a 30 day grace period for drivers until they begin enforcing the new 45 mph.
