Somerset Co. Technical High School on schedule to be complete by the next school year
WESTOVER, Md. – Students in Somerset County have a reason to be excited and that’s because the construction of Somerset County Technical High School is right on track. The new facility will replace the old J.M. Tawes Technology and Career Center.
The last time 47 ABC saw the site, it was for their groundbreaking ceremony in November. But now, almost one year later, we’re told the contractors and supervisors have been busy, working to get this facility up and running.
The crew has faced some weather issues, but they’ve made up for that lost time by working on Saturdays in order to stick with the construction timeline.
Daniele Haley, Supervisor for Facilities and Capital Planning tells us, “The primary structure is pretty much complete. They’re starting to work on interior walls, they built the stair towers, all the steel in place, and they are working on the greenhouse, which is a separate building, but mostly we’re going to start to moving in to finishing pretty soon.”
Next on the list, windows will go in and they’ll also put the exterior cladding and panels on. This new building will double in size from the old one, which will expand their programs.
We’re told they’re expecting to open up for the 2019-2020 school year.
