Snow Hill Public Works preps for Hurricane Florence; gives tips on how to avoid flooding

SNOW HILL, Md. – In Worcester County, parts of Snow Hill are under water. Certain areas are getting hit more, such as Route 12 and Byrd Park.

Officials in the area tell 47 ABC the flooding is the result of all the heavy rain we’ve been getting.

Snow Hill’s Public Works Department says they are prepping for more flooding this weekend and to do that they’re clearing storm drains, but they also need help from residents. “A lot of the drainage here isn’t that well anyway and just the way streets the way they are, the leaves, clippings, gets in there and covers these storm drains up. It becomes a big contributing factor to the streets flooding,” Director of Public Works Randolph Barfield says.

The town also reminds you to not put your trash out, since collection will not happen during the storm. High winds can cause your trash to become debris and in turn cause damage.

Trash and recycling will be collected on the next scheduled day.
