Residents celebrate deaf awareness week in Bethany Beach
BETHANY BEACH, Del. – In Delaware the State Association of the Deaf celebrated the second day of deaf awareness week with an opening reception in Bethany Beach. Event organizers say the purpose the week is to increase public awareness of deaf issues, people, and culture. They say activities and events throughout week will help encourage individuals to come together as a community for both educational events and celebrations.
“The more we teach the community out there sign language, we share it with everybody. As a group of deaf people we want to communicate and that means we need access to things, the more people here in the community that understand that the better we as a deaf community are,” said Ocean View resident Norma Buemi.
