Pocomoke elementary outdoor classroom getting kids excited to learn

POCOMOKE, Md. – As we begin to wrap up the month of September, 47 decided to check back in on Pocomoke Elementary School’s newest outdoor classroom. Back in August, construction was just finishing up for the new classroom before the start of the school year. The newest addition allows students to partake in a number of educational outdoor activities where they can work inside a greenhouse, while also learning about different food systems and plant life cycles. School officials say so far the new classroom has been a hit with students and teachers alike.

“The children they are fully excited about the opportunity to come Outside and taking part of our outdoor classroom. For them to physically get involved in the learning activity and learn in a less traditional manner students are more likely to retain information that they are receiving they have more ownership in their learning as well when they participate in this fashion of learning,” said principal Michael Browne.

Browne adds that the outdoor classroom is what students look forward to the most every single day.
