Pa. man charged with felony DUI offense in Rehoboth

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – A Pennsylvania man has been arrested for a third offense of DUI in Rehoboth Beach.

Shortly after 9 PM on Friday evening, a Rehoboth Beach Police officer observed 48-year-old Gavin A. Coates making an illegal turn at the intersection of Rehoboth Avenue and Second Street. When the officer stopped Coates, they detected signs of intoxication, and a field sobriety test was administered. Coates was then placed under arrest and taken into custody for driving under the influence of alcohol.

After being transported to the Rehoboth Beach Police Department for further testing, officers discovered that Coates had prior DUI related convictions.

Coates was charged with one (1) count of felony third offense driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and one (1) count of failure to obey a traffic control device. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $2,100 secured bail.
