Ocean City Beach Patrol keeps swimmers safe during Labor Day

OCEAN CITY, Md. – With the summer unofficially wrapping up, people in Ocean City are enjoying the beach one more time.
That means the Ocean City Beach Patrol has been stepping up to the plate to help protect hundreds of visitors.
According to the Beach Patrol Captain, Butch Davis, the team rescued more than 30 people both Saturday and Sunday.
Davis said there are 52 lifeguards on stand during Labor Day. However, on Tuesday the number of lifeguards will reduce to 20 due to the start of schools.
“People need to make sure they’re swimming when we’re there so we can help them,” said Davis.
“They really need to do that, and especially in this coming week when we’re so spread out,” Davis said.
According to the captain, on Tuesday there will be lifeguards every half mile, with mobile rescue control. He said beach patrol will be guarding the area until Sunfest.
