Mountaire Farms makes donation towards Selbyville road project
SELBYVILLE, Del. – Delmarva chicken processing company Mountaire Farms, Inc., has agreed to make a generous donation of $210,000 towards a road improvement project in Selbyville.
Railroad Avenue, which connects two main sections of the town, has been closed since March 2018, due to rust issues discovered in the metal piping under the roadway.
Repairs were made after the issue was discovered in 2015, however, they were only temporary to try to keep the road open as long as possible.
The total estimated cost of the project is $395,250, meaning Mountaire’s donation will cover over half the cost of repairs. Officials say the remainder of the funding will come from a grant from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC).
Selbyville Mayor Clifton Murray expressed his appreciation of the donation, stating “the town is very thankful for Mountaire’s participation in the project which has enabled us to move forward with this without having to find additional funding. Very appreciative Mountaire has stepped up to the plate for this long overdue culvert replacement.”
A pre-construction meeting is scheduled to take place sometime in October, to determine a start date for this project. Officials anticipate the project to take no longer than 60 days to complete.
