Motorcycle enthusiasts take on first day of OC BikeFest despite weather forecast

OCEAN CITY, Md. – In Ocean City, some people who weren’t afraid of the recent weather forecasts took a leap of faith and headed down to the town for the first day of BikeFest. Delmarva Bike Week was officially cancelled earlier this week , but event organizers with Bikefest still decided to rally on. In preparation for bad weather, officials decided to move a good amount of the events and activities scheduled for the festival, including concerts, inside of the Ocean City Convention Center. 47 spoke with motorcycle enthusiasts who told us why they decided to come out and enjoy another year of festivities.

“We had the hotel call us, we cancelled Monday then Wednesday we called and got them back and said okay we’re going, we’re just going to go we always have a good time down here, there’s always food things to see, to buy, it’s just a good time,” said Bikefest attendee George Turner.

Because of the unpredictable weather, event organizers feel as though the attendance for this years Bikefest won’t be as big as recent years. Typically vendors and small businesses in the area look forward to the large crowds because of sales, but this year might be a little different.

“A lot of people were scared away as you can see there’s a lot of vendors, a lot of people here so we’re hoping that even though many people were scared away, will continue to be here. We’ve stayed hoping to be able to do the business we came here to do so we’re looking for a decent event,” said festival vendor Paul Barber.

If you missed out on any of the events going on Thursday, you still have some time to get to the bike fest. The event will be going on from now until Sunday with all activities typically ending around 7 PM
