Millsboro working to revitalize the downtown and surrounding areas

MILLSBORO, Del. – Main Street in downtown Millsboro is just one of many projects town officials are taking on to help revitalize the area.
Millsboro residents and visitors are about to see a whole lot of changes around town from new sidewalks and street lighting to a brand-new community park.
“It will really send the message to the public that the town is serious about investing in the downtown and making the town the best it can be,” explains Town Manager Sheldon Hudson.
Town officials are trying to keep Millsboro’s historic charm by making some much needed improvements to the curb appeal downtown. It’s something local residents are definitely ready for.
One local business owner says, “I’m not even sure exactly what the are sidewalks going to be like, but it’s going to be better than what we got right now as we all have different heights, different things and it’s going to look better.”
“Curb appeal is important. There’s lots of other places people can go and shop about the biggest draw downtown here is the restaurants and you know parking is an issue, traffic is an issue but if it looked a little nicer that wouldn’t hurt,” explains one resident.
The town is also focusing on revitalization on the outskirts of town too where they’re getting community input for what will be a brand-new 12 acre park.
“We’re in the design phase right now. Some of the items are a splash pad, small and large dog park, walking trails, a Blue Star Memorial garden, an amphitheater and really it’s just exciting. It’s something that will be here for years to come,” says Asst. Town Manager Jamie Burk.
The town hopes by taking on these projects it will bring added investments, businesses, and restaurants to the area.
Millsboro will be bringing the proposed designs of the new park to council meetings, so there will be opportunities for the public to share their thoughts and ideas of what they like and don’t like.
Officials are hoping to have the downtown improvements finished by Memorial Day next year.
