Mardela Middle and High School unveil memorial
MARDELA SPRINGS, Md. – A Wicomico County community is honoring Deputy Steven Ray who tragically passed away due to a medical emergency just months ago.
Deputy Ray was a soccer coach at Mardela Middle and High School and to honor him, the school is unveiling a new memorial for the beloved coach
The memorial features a large rock with a plaque, a soccer ball signed by Ray’s players as well as their shoes hung on a tree with messages written on them honoring Deputy Ray.
We’re told hundreds came out for the unveiling of the memorial Monday night reminding people of the kind of person Deputy Ray was and keeping that memory alive.
Kory Shiles, the Mardela Athletic Director said, “He was a hard worker. You knew where he stood he was a no nonsense kind of guy coming from the marines and the sheriffs department. He brought that type of mentality into his coaching and he instilled that into the boys that he coached.”
The memorial is located behind Mardela High and Middle School under a tree near the soccer field.
