Local farmers look ahead to fall crops after rough spring
SALISBURY, Md. – Although for many of us think the heat has been a lot to deal with, it turns out it has helped some of our farmers here on Delmarva.
Baywater Farms in Salisbury says this sunshine is letting them keep their summer crops for just a little bit longer. Which is actually a good thing after having such a rough spring with torrential rains.
They also say this weather is paving the way for a successful start to their fall crops, like butternut, acorn, and spaghetti squash.
“Every morning I start my day off looking at what’s out there whether it’s going to impact us. As of right now we’re looking pretty good but a lot of our fields they just can’t take that much rain so some of those storms even if they don’t hit us, they’ll dump so much rain that it can be catastrophic,” explains Andy Holloway, owner of Baywater Farms in Salisbury.
Holloway says if they fields get too much rain, the damage could affect our their bottom line.
