Investigation underway in fatal house fire in Easton, Md.

EASTON, Md. – The Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating a fire that claimed the life of a 61-year-old man and sent his 85-year-old mother to a burn center Saturday night.

Officials say the incident happened at 7371 Brett Road in Easton where a one alarm fire brought 39 firefighters around 11:05 PM.

They reportedly were able to bring the blaze under control in just over an hour within the wood frame, two-story, split-level house.

The fire is estimated to have caused $220,000 dollars in damages to the building and another $80,000 dollars in damages to what was inside the home.

Reports say firefighters found the body of the 61-year-old man in a second-level bedroom where investigators are placing the fire’s origin.

The 85-year-old mother remains hospitalized at Johns Hopkins Bayview Burn Center in Baltimore where officials say she is in critical condition.

Investigators say they did not find any smoke alarms within the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Easton Police Department assisted the Office of the State Fire Marshal with the investigation.

Anyone with information on the fire is asked to call Deputy State Fire Marshals at 410-822-7609.
