Friday morning collision turns fatal in Dover

DOVER, Del. – The Dover Police Department is currently investigating a Friday morning collision that left a bicyclist dead.

At approximately 9:30 AM on Friday, 41-year-old Emmanuel Collazo was riding a bicycle in the southbound bike lane of U.S. Route 13, just north of College Road, in a southbound direction. A 2003 VW Jetta then crossed into the right turn lane from the right travel lane, striking the rear of the victim’s bicycle.

Collazo was reportedly ejected from the bicycle onto the hood of the vehicle, sustaining major injuries. He was admitted to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital for treatment, where he died on Sunday as a result of his injuries.

Alcohol is not considered a factor in this incident. Possible charges are pending further investigation.
