Folk Festival artists showcase selections at Wicomico schools

PITTSVILLE, Md. – Local schools got an exclusive sneak peak at some of the musicians playing this Folk Festival weekend.

On Friday, they had the chance to listen to some of the musicians playing this weekend and explore folk music.

At Pittsville Middle school, ‘Michael Winograd & the Honorable Mentshn‘ played traditional polka selections to give students a little taste of whats to come this weekend.

Middle school teachers and administrators tell us Friday’s performance was a great chance for kids to  not only explore the wonderful world of folk music, but it gave the bands that played great publicity and encourages kids to get families to make it out to the folk fest.

Nacy Guillemart, Pittsville Elementary and Middle School’s vice principal said, “We’re always trying to encourage diversity and multiculturalism. We’re an arts integration kind of school and we’re really trying to promote the arts because we think it makes people better people and helps us enjoy life more.”

Guillemart says she hopes the polka music performance strikes a chord with students and encourages them to discover their hidden talents.
