Dorchester County receives grant for Cannery Park Rails to Trails project

DORCHESTER COUNTY, Md. – The Hogan Administration has announced $17 million dollars in grants to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety.

On the shore, Dorchester County got a nice chunk of the change for the Cannery Park Rails to Trails Project. They were awarded with $220,700, which will renovate 1/3 of an abandoned rail line into a path.

This entire project involves multiple components such a renovated park space and restored stream. It’s all apart of the Cannery Park Project.

47 ABC spoke to Dorchester County’s Director of Tourism, Amanda Fenstermaker, who says this will get the ball rolling for construction, “The city of Cambridge completed with the Eastern Shore Land Conservancy an overall plan or design for the park and that’s been shown to the city council and we are working on lining things up to get into implementation.”

They hope to have it up and running by late spring or early summer but right now it’s hard to tell when the exact deadline will be.
