Developers looking to turn farmland into townhomes
LEWES, Del. – Residents will be able to give their two sense to the city on a 30 acre property that could be developed into townhouses.
The Brittingham Property on New Road is just farmland right now and developers are hoping to change that, but before they turn these open fields into townhomes, they want to be annexed into the city.
It’s something the city is definitely considering because we’re told a lot of land is developing around the city, but not within city limits.
This would give them the ability to have a say and possibly preserve some of the open space.
“The concept we’ve seen at this point would have townhouses and that is by utilizing the cluster option to keep 70 percent or approx. 70 percent of the site open space and keep all of the development on the higher ground. So we’re keeping development out of the flood plain away from the wetlands,” explains Anne Marie Townsend, Lewes City Manager.
There will be a public hearing on whether or not this lot should be zoned to allow those plans to happen. That hearing is set for 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9th where anyone is welcome to share comments or concerns.
