Delaware DMV installs “Safe Selfie Zones”

DELAWARE – Delaware Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) locations in Delaware are seeing the launch of a new feature at each of their offices.

“Safe Selfie Zones” offer a safe, new way for new drivers to share their news via social media. Newly licensed drivers in Delaware will be able to take a picture in front of a colorful backdrop to announce their success of obtaining their drivers license to friends and family, keeping their personal information safe and secure.

This idea began when a DMV employee noticed that many “selfies” were circulating around various social media platforms, including images of actual drivers licenses. This can reveal identifying information including a drivers’ home address and drivers license number, that can be stolen without the individual’s knowledge or permission.

Last year, Delaware’s DMV issued over 36,000 new drivers licenses to both minors and adults.
