De. man facing several charges after public altercation

SALISBURY, Md. – A Georgetown man was arrested and charged following an altercation that took place in Salisbury.

Friday evening, at around 10:51 PM, a deputy observed a physical altercation in the area of Waverly Drive at Maryland avenue. The deputy intervened and attempted to separate who appeared to be the primary aggressor, 30-year-old Elmer Lopez-Perez, from the others involved.

Lopez-Perez appeared to be extremely intoxicated and struggled against the officer’s efforts to detain him, yelling and cursing at others within the immediate vicinity. Due to the commotion, traffic in the area came to a standstill and residents began stepping out of their homes to see what was going on.

Lopez-Perez was then placed under arrest, and was charged with disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, resisting and arrest, and dangerous weapon, following the deputy’s discovery of a knife in the suspect’s pants pocket.

He was transported to the Central Booking Unit, where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. He was released on Personal Recognizance following an initial appearance.
